a palestinian village
The photos showcase two vanishing phenomena in Palestinians’ everyday life. One is on how the old generation, many of whom born in the 1930s, move in space and socialise. The other is on how the last generation of women, born in the 1920s & 30s, dressed in a traditional vernacular way to the area where they come from. Late mornings are a particularly good time for men to socialise and start making their way towards the mosque, in the centre of the village. As the village has no public parks and organised centre, shadows of buildings, friends’ houses, or grocery shops are perfect places for them to shelter from the hot sun and socialise at the same time. Women tend to socialise at each others’ houses.
